Schedule of National Assembly session changed, election of new Speaker postponed

 


The election of new Speaker has been postponed due to change in the schedule of National Assembly session as Acting Speaker Qasim Suri adjourned the session from April 16 to April 22. According to media reports, acting Speaker Qasim Suri, using his special powers under the rules to delay the election of the Speaker of the National Assembly, has adjourned the sitting of the lower house from April 16 to April 22.

In this regard, a statement issued by the National Assembly Secretariat said that the National Assembly, which was scheduled to convene on April 16 at 4 pm, will now convene on April 22 at 3 pm. The schedule has been changed under National Assembly Rules 2007 ۔

Earlier, in the schedule issued by the National Assembly Secretariat for the election of the Speaker, the deadline for submission of nomination papers was April 15 at 12 noon.

It may be recalled that before the vote on the no-confidence motion against the then Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Speaker of the National Assembly had resigned from his post. Addressing the members after sitting on the seat, he said that the oath has been taken, I am bound by the constitution, I have a letter, I will send it to the Chief Justice, the members of the Assembly can also come and see this letter in the Speaker's Chamber Announcing his resignation, Qaiser handed over the responsibility of conducting the assembly session to Ayaz Sadiq.

While Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri did not resign, he became the Acting Speaker of the National Assembly. He will preside over the session of the National Assembly as Acting Speaker.
