Peshawar High Court orders postponement of second phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa


  1.  PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered to postpone the second phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) due to cold and snowfall in the hilly areas in March. Issue schedule after Ramadan. According to Geo News, the Peshawar High Court Abbottabad Bench has ruled on the second phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It does not seem possible, so the schedule for the second phase of local body elections in the hilly areas should be released after Ramadan.
  2. The Election Commission has failed in its duties in this regard. Now, in the second phase, most of the local body elections are to be held in hilly areas. The High Court said that the petitioner contended that it was not possible for the voters to leave their homes due to cold and snowfall, which would create difficulties for the voters as well as the election staff. On the other hand, during the hearing on Friday, PTI lawyer Ramzan Chaudhry said that the Election Commission has barred the PTI candidate from contesting the election, while the election in Bakakhel is scheduled for February 13. He has been barred from contesting elections till the investigation is completed. He requested that PTI be given a chance to field a candidate and that the election in Bakakhel be postponed or rescheduled. PTI lawyer Ramzan Chaudhry while giving arguments said that our candidate Mamun Rashid has passed away politically. If Hanif Abbasi was convicted in the general election then the election was postponed. Election Commission of Pakistan Reserved decision on request.
