Faisal Wawda's decision to challenge the disqualification of the Election Commission
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI leader and former MNA Faisal Wawda has decided to challenge the disqualification decision of the Election Commission. Wawda has completed consultations with lawyers to challenge the decision. Faisal Wawda's lawyers will file a petition against the decision in the next few days.
It may be recalled that the Election Commission of Pakistan has de-notified Faisal Wawda as Senator. Faisal Wawda's seat in the Senate was declared vacant. Faisal Wawda is accused of having dual citizenship. He is accused of not disclosing his foreign citizenship at the time of nomination papers. Faisal Wawda did not admit the allegations but he had approached the High Court against the case in the Election Commission. The High Court had rejected his plea that the main forum for hearing the case was the Election Commission. A petition was filed in which it was stated that Faisal Wawda had concealed his US citizenship while submitting his nomination papers for the 2018 elections, therefore he should be disqualified. After the Election Commission had reserved the decision of the disqualification case in December 2022, which has been announced today.
